Marketing a Startup

How to Market a Product for under $500
Marketing might just be the most important overlooked part of starting a business. For one thing, you might already have a few customers. And if you are starting your business on a shoestring and a credit card, you probably do not have much money to pay yourself a salary, much less pay for marketing.

But… how are people going to buy from you, if they don’t know about you?

Sure, you have a customer or two, and you want to keep them happy. You ask them for referrals, you network, pass out business cards (you do have business cards, don’t you?), possibly advertise on the internet. And even that is pushing your budget.

There are inexpensive ways to get your name out there.

I read this book cover to cover, and still use it as a reference when I need a good, inexpensive idea. This book is a must have for business startups. It gives absolutely perfect ideas on getting your name, product, or service out in front of potential customers for not much money, many times even free.

Some examples:

  • Write a short press release about you, your product, or service. You can send the press release to trade magazines, which will often publish them for FREE.
  • Send a short article to a variety of press release websites, which will release them to the world. Again, most of them are FREE. Think how exciting it would be to have your company listed on Google News.
  • Make a small brochure – the book gives plenty of examples. Print them yourself, and send them out.
  • Put your logo on inexpensive trinkets to hand out – pens, pads of paper, magnets – none of which are too expensive.

The entire book is absolutely FILLED with these kinds of ideas. And, I know, for a startup business, there is no extra money to go around. Believe me – I once sold a stack of CD’s to get gas money so I could visit a customer. Every penny counts, but you still have to get your name out there.

Because people won’t buy from you if they don’t know about you.

Check out the book. If you make just one extra sale from the simple marketing ideas, it will be well worth it.

And another way I know it’s a great book? I just checked on Amazon.com – they were sold out.
